PHOTO ESSAY: LAS ÚNICAS

Lindsay Rico and I met up on a freezing Sunday morning at a studio space on the top floor of the Williamsburg library. She told me to bring the wings. These pictures were taken during and in between breathes of conversations around the hustle of being Latinx women from California (I am Nicaraguan, born in Inglewood and raised in Oakland and she is Mexican from East LA).

We carry with us several layers of displacement while we navigate the physical + mental hustle of being actors who know we’re unique as hell, for better or worse. But on this day, we were just fucking around, subconsciously enjoying the fruits of who we work hard to be.

It sure comes with a lot of homework and heartache, but when I’m focused on my work I feel it as a superpower. Only you can come through and build the special blue print for your hustle. Lindsay says she’s obsessed with her story and she just has to see it through — just to know how the mother fucker ends…
